Summer Activities to do with your pupper!

Tips and things to do during the summer with your pup.

We are lucky to live in an Island where we can enjoy the outdoors all year round! But since Summer is approaching, we wanted to share some ideas of what to do to make the most of it with your pupper this year. After all, life is short especially for our pups so we should make the most of it with them! There are plenty of activities you can do with your pupper to keep them happy and healthy.

Here are some tips and things to do during the summer with your pup:

Tip #1 - Stay hydrated!

Make sure your dog always has access to fresh water, especially during hot and humid days. Bring a portable water bowl and a bottle of water whenever you go out.

Tip #2 - Go for a swim!

Swimming is a great way for your dog to cool down and exercise. Look for dog-friendly beaches, lakes, or pools in your area. Make sure your dog is comfortable in the water and always supervise them.

Tip #3 - Have a sprinkler or kiddie pool day!

If you don’t have access to a beach or prefer to stay with your pupper at your house, you can use a sprinkler or get a plastic kiddie pool for him to play in and stay refresh!

Tip #4 - Make dog friendly refreshing treats!

Using a plastic or silicone mold, mix in plain Greek yogurt with honey/peanut butter and fruits then freeze! Your dog will cool down and enjoy this natural treat.

Tip #5 - Find shaded areas!

Avoid walking your dog during the hottest times of the day. Look for shaded areas and plan your walks early in the morning or late in the evening.

Tip #6 - Take a hike!

Hiking is a great way to explore nature with your dog. Look for dog-friendly trails and bring plenty of water and snacks. Make sure your dog is fit enough to handle the hike and always keep them on a leash.

Tip #7 - Go to the park!

Enjoy a sunny day outdoors and do a picnic with your dog at El Morro for example. You can play fetch or frisbee there. Make sure your dog has a good recall and/or use a long line.

Tip #8 - Go on a date with your pupper!

Go to lunch or brunch with your pup and friends at a dog friendly venue. Make sure to only go with your pupper if he is well behaved in that type of social setting and make sure to bring his water bowl and snacks.

Tip #9 - Teach your dog a new trick!

Summer is a great time to teach your dog a new trick or work on obedience training. Use positive reinforcement and keep training sessions short and fun.

Tip #10 - Take a Road trip!

If you have the time and resources, consider taking a road trip with your dog. Look for dog-friendly hotels and attractions along the way. Make sure your dog is comfortable traveling and always secure them in a car harness or crate.

By following these tips and doing these activities, you and your pupper can have a fun and safe summer together. Just remember to always prioritize your dog's health and safety and enjoy the sunshine!
